Arena gives a quiet dining room something to look at. The wide back is a wooden panel grooved in relief, fine ridges set in geometric fields that turn and meet at crisp angles, so the pattern shifts as the light moves through the day. The grooves are real relief in the wood, not a printed pattern, and the grain running through them varies from chair to chair, so each back is a little different.
Below it, a softly domed cushion in an oatmeal performance fabric sits on webbing in a shallow wooden tray, so the seat stays comfortable through a long dinner. The frame is wood in a pale Wheat finish, a matte greige with open grain, on four square tapered legs with no stretchers in the way of your feet. Armless and 21 inches wide, it lines up neatly along the table. Pair it with pale oak, travertine and linen for a calm coastal look, or with concrete and black steel for something more modern.
Set them around our Petrizzi table in a matching Wheat tone, or with the reeded Malvito round for a softer, textured look.
