Cane doors, warm birch. A 59-inch mid-century media console in pecan birch veneer, with two sliding cane doors, two open cubbies and splayed legs.

Two sliding doors fill the left of the case, each holding a panel of natural woven cane in a mitered wooden frame with a thin rounded bead. The open weave lets the dark interior show through and softens a long, low piece. The doors have no handles: they glide on a double track, each on four small rollers, and open by the frame.

The case is birch veneer over MDF, stained a warm pecan brown that keeps the soft, wavy figure of the birch in view. On the right, one fixed shelf splits the open section into two cubbies for a streaming box or a slim games console, and the whole case rests on a low base frame with four tapered legs splayed in the mid-century way. Style it with linen, stone and pale plaster for a soft coastal room, or with walnut, leather and a black-framed print for a more retro mood.

For a matching warm brown look, pair it with our Rovereto brown ash veneer round coffee table.

Named after Cisternino, a hill town in the Itria Valley, in the province of Brindisi in Puglia.

The idea

Natural cane, warm birch.

Two sliding cane doors, two open cubbies and four splayed legs: a 59-inch mid-century console that suits a screen up to 65 inches and hides clutter behind the weave.

The details

Look closer. We did.

Photographed up close, because texture, seams and joinery are where quality shows.

Cane in a mitered frame

Close up, one sliding door: natural woven cane with rounded corners, edged by a thin wooden bead inside a mitered pecan frame, with the double track along the bottom.

Doors left, cubbies right

Styled with a leaning print and a lamp on top, the console shows its two cane doors on the left, two open cubbies on the right and four tapered legs splayed outward.

Birch figure under the stain

Looking straight down at the top: the pecan stain settles into the birch veneer and leaves its soft, wavy figure in view, different on every console.

In the room

Room for a 65-inch screen.

At 59 inches wide it suits screens up to 65 inches, and at just under 20 inches high it sits low beneath a wall-mounted TV or holds one on its stand.
