Fossano 31.5-Inch Round Burl Wood Veneer Pedestal Coffee Table

Small, pale, softly figured. A 31.5-inch round coffee table in pale burl wood veneer: a deep drum top that seems to float over a smaller round pedestal.

Burl is wood at its most irregular, and this veneer shows it: soft rippling figure and scattered groups of small reddish-brown eyes on a pale sand ground. It wraps the top, the side of the drum and the pedestal, over an MDF core that keeps the round flat and true, and since no two pieces of burl are alike, every table carries its own pattern.

The shape is two plain rounds. A 7.1-inch drum with a flat top and crisp, lightly eased edges sits on a 17.9-inch pedestal and overhangs it by nearly 7 inches all around, so a soft shadow line runs underneath and the table looks lighter than it is. There is no rim, band or hardware in view. Try it with a curved cream sofa and sheer linen for a quiet, pale room, or against tan leather for warmer contrast.

Add a pale wool rug and a lamp with a linen shade, and let the burl be the only pattern in the room.
