Soft on top, worn-in below. A slim 35-inch bench: a cream boucle cushion strapped onto a distressed buffalo leather base, on splayed mango legs.

Lattarico is made in two parts. On top sits a thick cushion of cream 100% cotton boucle, dense with small curly loops; below, a low base covered in genuine buffalo leather with a distressed finish, fine crackle and lighter wear on the corners. Two stitched leather straps with gunmetal buckles hold the cushion in place, and a run of antique-brass nailheads finishes the lower edge. Leather is a natural material, so crackle, tone and markings vary from bench to bench and soften with use.

It stands on four tapered, splayed legs in solid mango wood. At 15.7 inches high and under 14 inches deep, it is lower and slimmer than a dining bench, sized for a narrow entry, the foot of a bed or a living room wall, and low enough to sit on while pulling on boots. Style it with white panelling and brass for a Parisian hall, or with old oak and a wool rug for a country bedroom.
