Dark, ribbed, tailored. A 38-inch chest in wire-brushed peppercorn elm veneer, with three ribbed drawers, long black bar pulls and tapered legs.
Narrow vertical ribs cut each drawer front into flat boards, and because they line up from drawer to drawer, the whole front reads as one field of vertical lines that catches light and shadow. The elm veneer is wire-brushed before it takes its near-black peppercorn finish, so the grain still shows faintly as soft gray lines, and the top wraps down into both sides in one band with rounded corners.
Each drawer has one long matte black bar pull held by small antique-brass-finish brackets. Inside, the top drawer is lined in felt for watches and cufflinks, and the bottom drawer in cedar for sweaters and spare linens. The case sits on a slim stand with four tapered square legs, so the floor shows beneath. Style it with white plaster and olive branches for contrast, or with walnut and warm leather for a richer room.
