Reclaimed elm has already lived one life, and it shows in the best way: deep ridged grain, knots, fine checks and old tool marks run the length of the seat, so no two Magisano benches are alike. The seat is a single 2.5-inch slab with square edges, finished dry and matte in a pale, sandy natural tone that keeps all that texture in view.

Underneath, the frame is simple and open. Two A-frame trestles sit well in from the ends, each braced by a low cross bar, and a long stretcher runs between them with its tenons passing right through the bars, so the joinery is part of the look. At 18 inches high it sits at standard dining height along a table, and it works just as well in an entryway or at the foot of a bed. Style it with stone and linen for a Mediterranean feel, or with concrete and black steel for a modern room.
