Knotty oak, farmhouse warm. A tall 42-inch chest of five drawers in knotty oak veneer, weathered to a soft greige, with rounded edges and dark ring pulls.
English knotty oak veneer keeps every knot, check and open pore on show, and a weathered natural finish softens it to a warm greige, so each drawer front has its own pattern of dark knots. The top edge is rounded and the front corners are bullnosed, which gives a tall case the easy feel of an old farmhouse piece.
The veneer is laid over solid wood and MDF, so the case stays stable while the character of the oak shows. Five equal drawers stack in one column on self-closing guides mounted underneath, with felt in the top drawer for jewelry and aromatic cedar in the bottom drawer for clothes. Two dark oval ring pulls on each drawer are fixed in place rather than hanging. Style it with plaster walls and washed linen for a rustic calm, or with cognac leather and black steel windows for a loft.
