Tall and quietly pale. A tall 38-inch chest in light elm veneer, with five full-width drawers, rounded corners and recessed brushed-nickel pulls.
Light elm has an arched, open grain, and the pale finish lets it read as fine lines that change from drawer to drawer. The veneer is laid over rubberwood, plywood, laminated veneer lumber and MDF, a layered core that helps a tall case stay true. The front corners of the case and of the top are rounded, so the chest looks soft even at over four feet tall.
Each drawer opens from a long recess cut into its top edge and lined in brushed nickel, so nothing projects from the front. The five full-width drawers have French dovetails at the front, English dovetails at the back and tinted interiors, and they run on metal glides. Style it with charcoal linen and cognac leather for contrast, or with white plaster and pale oak for a calm Scandinavian room.
