The top is a thick, smooth bowl shape 16 inches across, and it rests on a tall bell-shaped pedestal that is hand-carved all over with rows of small oval scoops, so side light catches every one. The table is built from solid mango blocks, so slightly lighter and darker patches show, and a water-based, low-VOC lacquer protects the surface. Because the carving is done by hand, the scoops vary a little from table to table.
