Tall and quietly bright. A tall 36-inch chest in limed, wire-brushed oak veneer, with five framed drawers and ten polished nickel ring pulls.
The oak is wire-brushed until its open pores stand out, then washed pale, leaving thin whitish lines over a sandy base. The veneer is laid over a core of poplar, laminated veneer lumber and MDF, so the face is real oak, and no two drawer fronts carry quite the same figure.
Each of the five drawers has its own stepped, mitered frame and two polished nickel rings on small square blocks, and runs on metal ball-bearing glides. A molded top, a projecting plinth and four short tapered feet finish the case, and the box includes a kit to fix it to the wall. Try it with sea-grass baskets and white cotton for a coastal room, or beside warm walnut and brass for contrast.
