- Long facets, a low ridge: The long triangles meet at a sharp ridge about five and a half inches above the floor, where a band of shorter triangles bevels back in to the foot. Every facet is flat, with a crisp edge.
- A different shape from every side: Seen at an angle beside a sofa, the octagonal top reads as a flat plane and the facets below turn from near-black to dark charcoal as they face away from the light. There are no legs, no plinth and no hardware.
- Black stain on solid acacia: The top is solid acacia with a deep black stain under a satin lacquer. The fine grain of the wood still shows through, so the surface reads as wood, not paint.

A side table in solid acacia, stained a deep black and cut into facets like a gem. The flat octagonal top is 12 inches across. Below it, sixteen long triangles run down the sides, half pointing down from the edges of the top and half pointing up to its corners, and the body widens slowly to a sharp ridge about five and a half inches above the floor. A short band of smaller triangles then turns back in to the floor. Each facet catches the light a little differently, so the pattern shows even in black. The stain is sealed under a satin lacquer and the acacia grain still shows faintly through it. It arrives fully assembled.
